Family and Friends, 

This semester at Monmouth University, my classmates and I have taken part in a service-learning project. Simply put, this project takes our classroom education and applies it to a service project in the local community. My service project has taken me to Bridge of Books, a local foundation that provides free books to under priviledged families.

In the United States, access to books may not seem like a huge problem. However, there are thousands of kids without ample access to reading materials. Children in low-income families have access to fewer reading materials than children of middle- and upper-income families. It has been proven that access to reading materials has a direct effect on test scores and child's educational success. Bridge of books helps give these families a chance to give their children books and in turn a better chance at an education.
