Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my Virtual Book Drive, this year at Monmouth University my classmates and I agree raising money to help buy books for children and schools in desperate need of books. The Bridge of Books foundation has raised over 550,000 books for low income areas in New Jersey. It is imperative for young children to have access to age-appropriate reading material in order to practice reading and improve their literacy levels. While many middle class children have public library's they can get books from or check books out of school, lower class areas however do not have these amenities.

The Facts:

"The NCES¹ also reported that children who were read to frequently are also more likely to:

• count to 20, or higher than those who were not (60% vs. 44%) 
• write their own names (54% vs. 40%) 
• read or pretend to read (77% vs. 57%)" (nea.org).

"...one out of six children who do not read at age level by the end of third grade will not graduate from high school" (clifonline.org)

Book drives are amazing at raising books for children however, often the books raised are not exactly what the children need like bilingual or foreign language books. The virtual book drive is the solution to that problem, by fundraising money children can get the exact books that they need to succeed.

My fundraising goal is $200.00 however even the smallest donation will positively impact a child in need's life. Join the fight to battle childhood illiteracy.
