Dear Friends and Family, 

This semester at Monmouth University, my classmates and I have teamed up with the Bridge of Books foundation to help raise money for children and school districts in New Jersey in need of books. This project hits home for many of us being that the non-profit organization is local to Monmouth County. Of the books donated throughout New Jersey, thousands have been provided to a neighboring town in need if not your own. Bridge of Books recognizes the necessity for access to books and with your help, we can accomplish just that for those in need. 

Facts:

1 in 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read (dosomething.org).

In 2015, 65% of fourth graders had below proficient reading achievement levels (Kids Count). 

Children of parents with low literacy skills have a 72 percent chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves (proliteracy.org). 

Low literacy is an epidemic that affects us all. With the help of Bridge of Books NJ, 75,000 books have been donated throughout the state; but the problem is still very much relevant. With your help, we can conquer illiteracy and inaccessibility to books. Any donation is greatly appreciated and every dollar counts. Join Monmouth University's service learning project in the fight against low literacy and give children books to call their own.

Books have the power to change lives - educationally, socially, emotionally and professionally. Unfortunately, there are still too many children today without books in their homes, schools and communities.
