Dear Friends and Family,

Did you know that 61% of low-income families have no age-appropriate books in their homes? (IEA Reading Literacy Study). Or How about , Among those who reach adulthood with the lowest level of literacy proficiency, 43% live in poverty(National Center for Education Statistics). The need for books is becoming a serious and reocurring issue in the United States and even in New Jersey. 

I am fundraising on Behalf of Bridge of Books foundation. Bridge of Books is a non-profit organization that buys books and hosts books drives for children and school districts in need. In addition, Bridge of Books is a local foundation so you could be helping a family within 10 minutes of your home. Could you imagine your child growing up with no books and not have anything to read? 

1 in 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read (dosomething.org).

Reports show that the rate of low literacy in the United States directly costs the healthcare industry over $70 million every year (dosomething.org).

On behalf of Monmouth University and our English class one of our main goals this  semester is to raise money for Bridge of Books foundation. We are not asking for alot, but every dollar makes a difference. Over their history, Bridge of Books has donated over 750,000 books to children in need. Even though that is astonishing, there are still many children that still do not own books. Please take your time to read this, donate and help fix the literacy issue in New Jersey. Every Dollar Matters!
