This semester in my English II class, my classmates and I are collaborating with Bridge of Booke NJ to raise awareness on the importance of literacy among children, and additionally hosting a virtual book drive.

Why is this important? 

• 61% of low- income families do not have age appropriate books for children in the home (U.S. Department of Education)
• Children of low- income are 1.3 times more likely as children not in poverty to develop learning disabilities and developmental delays (Princeton University) 
• Reading skills in over 80% of children living in poverty decline over the summer due to lack of access to resources to books and libraries (Reading Is Fundamental) 

What is Bridge of Books Foundation?

Non- profit organization aiming to provide books to all underprivileged children. 

Bridge of Books has distributed over half a million books throughout New Jersey
